Meet Pastor G.
Reverend Garland S. Thompson is the first-born child to Mary Ann Thompson. Rev. Thompson is also the proud husband of Mrs. Crystal Corine Thompson and father of three sons, Garland Jr., Gavin, and Grayland. Pastor G, as he is affectionately known, is the Founding Pastor of Encountering Christ Baptist Church in Cypress, Texas. Prior to founding ECBC, Rev. Thompson served as an Associate Minister of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington Township, New Jersey. Prior to this assignment at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Rev. Thompson served at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Houston, Texas under the pastoral leadership of the late Sammy Ray Henderson Sr. and Kelton Henderson. Rev. Thompson served as Finance Ministry Director, Men’s Ministry Lead, Associate Minister, and armor-bear.

As a native Houstonian, Rev. Thompson received his education in the Houston Independent School District from Kashmere Senior High School. Educationally, Rev. Thompson earned his Bachelor of Administration Degree in Finance, a Master of Science in Accountancy from the Hobart Taylor School of Business at Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, TX., a Master of Divinity Degree from Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA., and is currently pursing a Doctorate of Ministry Degree also from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA.

Rev. Thompson has been given the opportunity to share in ministry throughout the country. He is a much sought after speaker and has served in a variety of capacities. He previously served on the Board of Directors for Alpha Impact Charitable Foundation, an organization dedicated to redirecting the lives of adjudicated youth in Harris County, Katy, and Cypress, TX. He is a proud member of the Prairie View A&M University Alumni Association, STVU Alumni Association, Life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the NAACP.
With a firm belief that there is transformative and liberating power found in the love of God, Rev. Thompson seeks to share that liberation for the edification and transformation of all of God’s children. He is driven by a passion for God, God’s people and the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. Rev. Thompson is a lifelong learner, sports enthusiast, and music lover.
